The Upper Room

is a personal story of nonstop motion and visual invention packed with sympathetic, energetic and passionate moments merging American Sign Language and cinema  language like never before.

The Upper Room is an endearing tale of a ten-year-old Deaf girl’s coming of age in the 1970’s.

The girl tries to reconcile her experiences in an unstable home life with the kindness given to her at school, a residential school for the Deaf.

In coping, the little girl escapes into her imagination, The Upper Room, where she meets the woman in herself.

The story transports us into this little girl’s journey as a woman in the 90’s where she is left to deal with the tragic, dark secret in her life.

Her grandmother’s love conquers the conflicting messages of love & lack of trust in this woman, Terrylene.

She is being called to do the unimaginable.
